How to cook a vegetarian sushi roll
A lot of people think of a sushi roll as a traditional, simple dish of rice, pork, vegetables and meat, but it’s really just a container for sauces, vegetables, spices and a bit of extra stuff like salt, vinegar and fat.
There’s also a lot of room for personalization and variety, so here’s a guide to make your own vegan sushi roll.1.
Start with a rice ball or bowl.
A rice ball is an inexpensive, easy to make vegan sushi rice ball.
It can be prepared in a few minutes, and it’s delicious with lots of extra toppings like tofu, tofu curds, sweet peppers and green onions.2.
Wash the rice ball in warm water for 15 minutes.
If it’s soaked too long, it will look a little mushy and not quite as dense.
You’ll have to do this twice before the water is gone.3.
Pour a small amount of water into a bowl, add the rice and add the tofu.
Add more water if the tofu is too mushy or too watery.4.
Dip the rice into the water and add more tofu.
Use a fork to pull the tofu up and away from the rice.
You can also use your hands, but I find that my hands are too short and I don’t like the extra friction.5.
Serve and enjoy!
